Angry Mob Kills Alleged Motorbike Thief In Lagos

A man suspected to be engaged in motorbike theft has reportedly been lynched and killed in Lagos State by commercial motorbike riders, popularly known as okada riders.

An eyewitness told SaharaReporters that the incident happened at Ara Junction along Agric Road, Egan in the Igando area of the state on Thursday morning.

The suspected criminal and his partner reportedly attacked an okada rider in the area, injured him and stole his motorcycle.

However, a mob of okada riders went after them and caught them. One of them was held hostage while the deceased was brutally beaten, leading to his death.

The eyewitness said, “A thief was gruesomely lynched to death by Hausa okada riders at Egan, Igando. The thieves were two in number. They attacked a Hausa okada rider in the early hours of today and they successfully carted away his bike and eventually injured the okada rider.

“One was held to ransom and the group of the Hausas lynched him to death. His body was lifeless for hours before police came to evacuate his body.”

However, some sources said that the motorbike rider whose bike was stolen is also dead. Meanwhile, the victim has been admitted to the Igando General Hospital.

When contacted, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident saying the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation.

He said, “From what people narrated, they claimed that he was a thief and they found him in their compound and they beat him, and by the time the police got there and took him to the hospital, he died.

“I’m going to get comprehensive details of what happened but I don’t have it yet.”
