Fire Razes Kogi Assembly Complex

Fire Razes Kogi Assembly Complex

The Kogi state House of Assembly complex in the early hours of Monday gutted by fire and burnt to ashes.

Witnesses said the fire burnt the roof of the hallowed Chamber of the complex, causing extensive damage to the floor of the house.

The Speaker of the House, Mathew Kolawole and the state security Adviser to Governor Yahaya Bello, Jerry Omodara were among the early callers to ascertain the essence of the damage at the Assembly complex.

Our correspondent noted that as of 10.30 am, a firefighting vehicle belonging to Dangote group pulled up at the complex to stem the inferno.

In a swift reaction, the Speaker of the Assembly said that he suspected sabotage in the burning of the assembly complex.

When asked whether the fire incident might have been linked with the recent face-off between the Assembly and Dangote group, he said that is left for the security to determine.

“We should leave security people to do their work and give us a report of going forward,” the speaker said.

Meanwhile the Kogi state Police command yesterday said it has set the necessary machinery in motion to unravel the culprits behind the burning of the state House of Assembly complex on Monday.

The state police Command’s Police Public Relations Officer,(PPRO), SP William Aya who disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Lokoja on Monday tasked the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to commence full-scale investigations immediately.
