OGUN REPLANTS OVER 3000 HECTARES OF PLANTS IN FOREST RESERVES

OGUN REPLANTS OVER 3000 HECTARES OF PLANTS IN FOREST RESERVES

In its bid to discourage deforestation and make Ogun Forest Reserves viable again, the State government through the Ministry of Forestry has replanted exotic and indigenous species of trees in Omu Forest Reserve in over 3000 Hectares of land.

The Commissioner for Forestry, Engr. Tunji Akinosi who made this known in Abeokuta at the World Forestry Day, said for the first time in 10 years, the government has been able to replant more trees into the reserve, encouraging people to plant trees that have been cut.

"We must encourage our people to plant trees that have been cut because tree planting serves as a means of livelihood and also a major source of wealth for humans by generating raw materials", he said.

Akinosi who assured of the field staffers’ safety, urged them to guide the reserve jealously, in order to boost the forest reserves.

Speaking on the theme of the Day tagged, "Forest and Sustainable Production and Consumption" the Commissioner emphasised the need for networking the road strategies, as well as inviting private operators into forest business and the reserve.
