  OGUN HoS HARPS ON CAPACITY BUILDING OF THE WORKFORCE

            The Ogun State Head of Service, Dr. Nafiu Aigoro says effort would be intensified on training and re-training of workers in every cadre, to expose them to current global methodologies for better service delivery.



Dr. Aigoro made this known in Abeokuta when he declared open a two-day retreat for staff in the environment sector, organised by the Ministry of Environment, Ogun State Environmental Protection Agency (OGEPA) and Ogun State Waste Management Authority (OGWAMA) with the theme "Refocusing Strategies for Better Environmental Governance in Ogun State".

The Head of Service stated that the Civil and Public Servants are the greatest assets of any government, hence the need to broaden their horizons on their areas of competence, adding that the retreat would allow for bonding among the participants and have a direct bearing on their environmental efficiency and productivity.

He advised the participants to engage in self-development skills that could enhance their productivity and tap into opportunities that professional bodies would offer them, commending the orgainsers for the initiative and urged them not to drop the ball.

           Speaking earlier, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Environment, Mr. Ola Oresanya said the retreat would give the management staff desired opportunity to re-think and re-strategise on their previous work plans for better performance individually and collectively.

           Oresanya, reiterated the determination of the present administration to make Ogun one of the cleanest states in Nigeria, adding that most of the ongoing environmental reforms were geared towards achieving the goals of the Ministry, saying compliance of the residents and visitors to the laid-down reforms would make the State a better, cleaner and livable place.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Engr. Rasaki Ojetola said the objective of the retreat would help the Ministry re-strategise and apply world best practice in its activities, saying “we believe that we can do better, achieve and cover more grounds”.

          Ojetola enjoined the participants to take advantage of the retreat to broaden their knowledge to enable the Ministry move forward.

          Some of the papers presented at the retreat include, "Domesticating Global Best Practices in Environmental Governance, Strategic Planning for Change Management, Vision of the Past Administration on Environment - the Pitfall and Ways of Preventing Future Occurrences, Strategic Environmental Management, Health and Career Talk and Information Management.

Speaking on behalf of the participants, Mr. Wemmimo Onaeko lauded the Ministry for the opportunity to learn from various professionals in their field, promising to impr on their service delivery.
