ACQUIRED LAND: OGUN PAYS OVER N700M AS COMPENSATION

ACQUIRED LAND: OGUN PAYS OVER N700M AS COMPENSATION

Over N700m has been paid as compensation to indigenes across the State whose land was acquired for developmental purpose since the beginning of the present administration.

The Special Adviser/Director-General, Bureau of Lands and Survey, Mr. Aina Salami made this known in an interview with journalists in Abeokuta said the compensation had been paid to owners of land acquired by the government for the public use.

Salami explained that 361 families and individuals, 60 croppers, and 160 people whose structures were on the right of way have been paid so far, assuring that government would ensure that citizens short-changed were promptly and adequately compensated, adding that payment of compensation is an important aspect of land administration.

"Prompt payment of compensation, and as when due will enhance development and increase the standard of living of the citizens, especially those whose lands were acquired for development purpose" Salami added.

The Special Adviser said litigation against the government since the inception of the present administration had drastically reduced as disputes over land were resolved amicably between parties involved through mediation, stressing that the Bureau had witnessed an operational turnaround, describing land grabbing and speculation as a criminal act which he said is not investors friendly.

He urged prospective investors or land users to obtain land information before any transaction was made to ascertain its status.
