Ban On Keke, Motorcycles, Tippers: Ugwuanyi Invites Union Leaders To Security Meeting

The violent events that occurred during last Wednesday’s Enugu State local government elections have not only thrown up new realities and elicited governmental action viewed as unpopular and capable of creating more tension, unemployment, poverty and violent crimes in the state.

Perhaps, based on security reports by security agencies during a meeting with Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi on the violent aftermath of the Council polls, the state government had banned the operations of commercial motor-and tri-cyclists as well tipping trucks in some local councils affected by the violence of the election day.

However,this decision was widely received with condemnation as unpopular and geared at enhancing poverty, unemployment and heightened criminality in the state.

While the affected mulled the way forward so as to guarantee their sources of livelihood, society watchers have called for a review.

Vitriolic priest and Spiritual Director of the Adoration Ministry Enugu Nigerian, Amen, Very Rev. Ejike Mbaka, has also joined in calling on the government to do a review or face God’s wrath for seeking to inflict more hardship on the people under their care.

Perhaps because this groundswell of criticism and condemnation, Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has invited the state leaderships of the Association of Tricycle Riders Transport Union (ATRTU), Tipper Union and the Nkanu East and Nkanu West Local Government Area branches of Motorcycle Transport Union to a security meeting on Tuesday, March 1, 2022.

A statement signed by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Information, Steve Oruruo, disclosed that the meeting will hold at the Government House, Enugu, at 2:45 pm.

The statement stressed that “All invitees to this meeting are expected to be seated by 2:45 pm on Tuesday, the 1st of March, 2022 at the Government House, Enugu”.

The full text of the statement reads: “The leaderships of the following Associations are hereby invited to a security meeting with His Excellency, the Governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, on Tuesday, 1st March 2022, at Government House, Enugu.

“Association of Tricycle Riders Transport Union (ATRTU) Enugu State.

“Enugu State Tipper Union.

“Motorcycle Transport Union of Enugu State: Nkanu East and Nkanu West Local Government Branches.

“All invitees to this meeting are expected to be seated by 2:45pm on Tuesday, the 1st of March, 2022, at the Government House, Enugu.
