OGUN SUBEB PROPOSES N1.50BN FOR NEXT FISCAL YEAR

The Ogun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), says it will continue to prioritise the provision of qualitative education to all pupils, towards acquiring appropriate levels of literacy, numeracy, communication and manipulative skills.

The Executive Secretary of the Board, Mr. Lekan Kuye, who disclosed this today, while taking his turn to defend the 2022 budget proposal of the Board before The State lawmakers, stated that emphasis is placed on Information and Communication Technology, as well as infrastructural development.

Kuye noted that the Board plans to spend over N1.50bn as its total budget for next year, adding that the figure consisted of N577.2m for capital projects and the remaining N927.8m for recurrent expenditure, with revenue target fixed at N10.6m

He said the budget proposal captured rehabilitation of 47 classrooms across the State to the tune of N238.9m, just as another N1.163bn was set aside for the construction 80 classrooms and rehabilitation of another 60 classrooms respectively, as well as 20 toilets, among other facilities were expected to be carried out from the Federal Government's intervention funds to the tune of N3.672bn.

Also, the Chairman, State Teaching Service Commission, Evang. Joshua Ifede, defended a total budget of N22.92bn, which included N140.9m for capital expenditure, N22.78bn for recurrent expenditure, while N3.18m was expected to be generated as revenue into government's coffers in the next fiscal year.

Ifede noted that the objective of the 2022 budget was to maximise the quality level of teaching through intellectual professionalism, thereby providing equitable, qualitative and affordable educational opportunities for all in addition to improved capacity development for teaching and non-teaching members of staff for effective service delivery.
