ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY: ABIODUN DONATES N10M, PICKUP TRUCK TO NIGERIAN LEGION

ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY: ABIODUN DONATES N10M, PICKUP TRUCK TO NIGERIAN LEGION

The Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has launched the year 2022 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem, just as he donated a sum of N10m and a pickup truck for the use of the Nigerian Legion.

Governor Abiodun while speaking at the launch in Abeokuta said the cultural diversity in the country remains its biggest strength, noting that the peaceful co-existence among various ethnic groups would serve as bedrock to sustain the nation's unity.

Abiodun described members of the Nigerian Armed Forces as true heroes and symbols of national unity, whose bravery and gallantry had helped in bringing peace to the country and different parts of the world, saying "they have fought, sustained injuries and left their loved ones. Today is to remember and appreciate those who have lost their lives and the least we can do is to buy the emblem and wear it. It is an opportunity to say ' thank you for your sacrifice'.

Abiodun called on the people, corporate organisations and government at all levels to support the worthy cause of remembering the heroes of the country by wearing the Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem with pride, stating his administration’s unwavering commitment to improving the State economy and implementing its vision in line with the laid down 'ISEYA' developmental agenda.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman, Nigerian Legion, Ogun State, Master Warrant Officer Orukotan Olumuyiwa appreciated the Governor for the support towards a successful Armed Forces Remembrance Day, saying the celebration is a reminder of the mortalities and fatalities suffered by the nation's fallen heroes, as well as the plight of their families.

Olumiyiwa appealed to individuals to come to the aid of his members and the families of their dead colleagues.

Highlight of the event was the decoration of the Governor, cabinet members and the Service Chiefs with the Remembrance Emblem.
