Five suspected kidnappers arrested in Ogun

The Police in Ogun State says it has arrested five members of a kidnap syndicate, terrorizing Obada-Oko and its environs.

Ogun Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, identified the suspects as “Aliu Manya, Abayomi Olayiwola, Usman Abubakar, Bello Usman and Nasiru Muhammad.”

Oyeyemi said their arrest followed information received by the police at Obada Oko divisional headquarters that the men were sighted on two motorcycles inside a forest at Eleja area of the community at 8 pm.

Acting on the information, the DPO of Obada Oko division, CSP Tijani Muhammed, was said to have mobilized his men, who in collaboration with other security outfits like the So-Safe Corps, hunters and local vigilantes, stormed the forest where the five suspects were nabbed.

“Packs of tramadol, Indian hemp, three cutlasses, drugs called eskay, and two motorcycles with registration numbers MEK 504 VC and ODE 423 VC as well as a cash sum of seventy-three thousand Naira” were recovered from the suspected kidnappers, according to the police spokesman.

He added that a kidnap survivor victim had identified the suspects as those who kidnapped him.

“His brother, who took ransom money to them also identified two amongst the suspects as those who collected the money from him for the release of his brother,” Oyeyemi added.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Lanre Bankole, said the suspects would be transferred to the anti-kidnapping unit of the State CIID for discreet investigation.
