Jumoke Odetola says social media taxation timing is wrong
NOLLYWOOD actress, Jumoke Otedola has reacted to the plan by the Federal Government to impose taxes on social media activities and businesses.
The 38-year-old actress stated the introduction of the tax system by the government will discourage many young talents.
“If they introduce the tax system it will discourage a lot of young talents and creativity. If they have to introduce the tax, maybe, they can start with multinational companies, and exclude individuals. As for me, the timing is completely wrong,” she said.
Continuing the Gargantua star said, “Yes, social media is used for business. It’s a creative space where we showcase ourselves to the world. Many youth including teen comedienne Emmanuella, Ikorodu Boiz and others have done so much for themselves by showcasing their talents hence putting the country on a global map.
“But this kind of decision could cause aggressive reaction like: ‘Since they can provide our basic needs, and they are just trying to take from us. Do you hate us?”
